Mattei – Quinquinas from Corsica

Cap Corse, the northern tip of the French island of Corsica, provides a superb terroir for grape varieties such as Muscat or Vermentinu. The island’s iconic brand Mattei has been using these aromatic grapes for 150 years to create their signature bittersweet aperitif wines. Most recently, the range has been extended by an  equally intriguing Mediterranean-style dry gin.

Mattei Cap Corse Grande Réserve Quinquina Blanc

Mattei Cap Corse Grande Réserve Quinquina Blanc

This floral, fresh aperitif wine is made from fortified sweet wine (mistelle), cinchona bark and botanicals like local cedrat (citron lemon). Rich herbal aromas with honeysuckle, elderflower, grape juice, lemongrass and intense bitterness.

Perfect as refreshing aperitif on ice, with tonic water or sparkling wine. Besides, it works particularly well in the Vesper Martini and 20th Century Cocktail.

This red bitter-sweet aperitif wine is using a different set of botanicals compared to its white counterpart. The aroma offers an intense composition of caramel, dried fruits, complex herbal notes and rosemary.

Perfectly served on ice, with soda or tonic and a citrus peel, with sparkling wine, or as particularly elegant substitute for vermouth in the Manhattan.

Mattei Le Seul Vrai Cap Corse Aperitif au Quinquina Rouge

Mattei Le Seul Vrai Cap Corse Aperitif au Quinquina Rouge

The two Le Seul Vrai variants from Mattei are based on cinchona bark and mistelle. However, they are a lot sweeter than the Grande Réserves, have a lower alcohol content and are very suitable for drinking neat or on ice.

The MATTEI Cap Corse Rouge Aperitif au Quinquina LE SEUL VRAI can replace Campari or vermouth in a Negroni, but its big brother, the Grande Reserve, is the better choice for mixing more complex drinks. The LE SEUL VRAI variant works particularly well in a fresh Cap Corse tonic.

The two Le Seul Vrai variants from Mattei are based on cinchona bark and mistelle. However, they are a lot sweeter than the Grande Réserves, have a lower alcohol content and are very suitable for drinking neat or on ice.

The MATTEI Cap Corse Blanc Aperitif au Quinquina LE SEUL VRAI also works well in Cap Corse Tonic. Its juicy citrus notes and tart bitterness are particularly refreshing. Both Cap Corse aperitifs can of course also be used for cocktails in addition to pure enjoyment. Mix a delicious Cap Mattei Spritz with both Le Seul Vrai variants!
